Vignano – The Winery

Interview of Mr. Dominique and Mr.Nicolas Fanucci – Owners – Vignano for AsiaImportNews -Exclusive

Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?

Vignano as a farm has been farmed for hundreds of years. The farm buildings date back to the 1400’s. The fields were replanted and reorientated as those that worked the fields before us learned and understood the agronomy of the region. We have continued the practice of the past mixing héritage with innovation. We have brought Vignano into the 21st century with  Tuscan authenticity blended with the taste of our times.

What sort of wines are you producing ?

We are producing Chianti DOCG Superiore, Chianti DOCG and IGT wines. We have also created the phrase ‘Super Malbec’ for our newest wine to be introduced in the coming months. No prizes for guessing the grape !

How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?

We mostly export our wines. Vignano was initially set up for the Swiss/German market. We have developed this to include the Dutch, Estonian, Swedish, Irish, French and Belgian markets.

What sort of distributors are your customers ?

We are a Bio Organic farm that makes bio dynamic wines. Our distributors are those who have an inroad to a market that appreciates quality in a natural way. Our emphasis is quality. We are unmistakably Italian, and proud to share our philosophy of life through our creation.

Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?

I would say the strict bio nature of our wines. The region is full of quality wineries. The Tuscan soil offers the perfect environment for vines. The sunny days and cooler nights allow the perfect blend of sugar and yeast on the skins that give these wines the uniqueness they deserve. Our emphasis is on the vine. Grow quality grapes and we believe one gets quality wines. We have chosen to continue and develop the bio-organic route. I believe another distinction is the way we blend. Syrah, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot all have a say in the end product. Our Sangiovese is a Brunello. We are also in the enviable position to have grapes growing at 500 meters above sea level to 250 meters above sea level.

Vignano – Barells

Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?

We are European certified bio-organic. We also have a three snail rating from Delinat, the Swiss consortium, whose rules are far stricter than the Europeans.

Vignano is part of the environment. We have not extracted land to grow grapes. We respect the local flora and fauna which encourages a certain yield of grapes per year. We have a robust system of giving back to the earth that the earth has given. We have not shied away from science and in particular the science of bio agronomy. We work in close collaboration with our Agronomist who in turn makes decisions on laboratory evidence.

Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?

Winning Grand Gold and increasing our production has given us the confidence to start looking further afield. The Asian market is a sophisticated market to enter with an understanding of quality. We believe our wines would be successful and well received in Asia.

Is there anything who want to add about your wines, story or any news ?

Patrick, Dominique and Nicolas Fanucci are three brothers with a long line of Tuscan ancestry. We have lived global lives in countries as diverse as the UK, Mauritius, Dubai, Singapore and South Africa  and we understand the international palate.

The knowledge gained from living abroad is a concept we have taken home to Italy. We believe our wine reflects that global experience. It’s unmistakably Italian and at the same time, uniquely international.  Above all, we stand by the bio-dynamic nature of our wine and the considerate effort we  harness to ensure absolute quality in each bottle.
