Mitja, together with his indefatigable parents Anna and Milan, who are linked by their passion and experience from the Miklus family’s generations, leads the company with the same zeal and dedication as his forefathers.
The vineyards are completely covered in grass and are handled with the utmost regard for the environment and, in particular, the consumer, with no herbicides used.
The property is divided into two plots and stretches surrounding the winery in the nicest sections of the Collio:
- Draga: The vineyards are planted in the sunniest part at an altitude of 200 meters and have always produced excellent crops.
- Breg: The vineyards are planted at an altitude of 220 meters and surround the winery. They are also exposed to the sun but beaten by stronger winds, where the most resistant grapes find comfort.
With 4000/6000 plants per hectare, the grape growing methods are “Cappuccina” and “Guyot.” To ensure the greatest quality of grapes, production is kept to a minimum, ranging from 4000 to 7000 kg per hectare. The majority of vineyard work, such as grape harvesting, crop thinning, and grape selection, is done by hand, in keeping with tradition and, in particular, due to the steep slopes.
“We’ve been seeking to increase attention to the vineyards and grape selection for years, because it’s from the raw material that a high-quality product is formed,” Mitja says.
WE HAVE CHOSEN ONLY ONE MASTER: THE NATURE
The vineyards are grassed and managed in a way that has a low environmental impact. The wine is packaged in a light-weight glass bottle. Green energy generated by two photovoltaic systems is also beneficial to us. Rainwater is collected in a big tank for agricultural usage as well as machine washing. They have access to a natural water spring, which allows them to have their own water supply even during the drier months. Furthermore, They employ renewable energy obtained directly from their property to heat corporate premises.
Grandfather Franz often said: “If you respect the nature and the land, they will never betray you.”

Interview of Asia Import News to Mr. Miklus Mitja – Owner
Question 1: Do you already export to Asia ?
Yes I do. If yes, where ? China, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, South Korea. If no, what type of importers & distributors are you looking for in Asia ? For other countries, I look importers of high quality wines only.
Question 2: What is the most unique and qualitative part of your products, different from competitors ?
The most important part is the location of our vineyards in Collio. This wine region in Friuli (North-east Italy) is the most important and known in Italy for white wines and we are located in top of the hill, this mean the best position in Italy. We are also different from competitors because we produce special unique wines, known as orange, natural or amber wines. Our best product is Malvasia Miklus and Pinot Grigio Miklus, only a few wineries produce this type of wines!
Question 3: When did you start to export your brand worldwide, and what is your development plan for the next years ?
We started to export in 1992 and our development plan is to obtain certificate of organic wines. Now we are in conversion.
