The vines of Chateau Haut-Pougnan extend over the slopes of the right bank of the Garonne, on magnificent clay-limestone and gravelly soils, in the heart of Entre-Deux-Mers, near Créon.
Red wine vineyards can be found on the eastern and southern slopes, while white wine vineyards may be found on the western slopes. The clay-limestone character of these soils allows for the production of particularly good wines with a delicate fragrance.
The grape varieties
The red wines made from Merlots (50%), Cabernets Sauvignons (40%) and Cabernets francs (10%) reflect the trilogy of Bordeaux grape varieties.
For white wines, Sauvignon (70%), Sémillion (25%) and Muscadelle (5%), give them a finesse and a prestigious bouquet. The full-bodied, juicy red wine has a notably well-balanced tanicity. It continues to please with its elegance and balance in the mouth, despite its lovely color.
The white wine has a superb fragrance and delicacy. The pleasures of the Entre-Deux-Mers and the beautiful accompaniment. The light-colored rosé wine with a superb scent finishes delicious, energetic, and structured on the palate.
The greatest way to enjoy white wines is to try them when they’re still fresh. They’re a fantastic addition to fish and seafood recipes. Rosé wines pair well with appetizers and cold cuts of meat. Over the first two years, these wines improve significantly. After three to five years, the red wine aged for one year in oak barrels blossoms. For eight to ten years, great vintages mature gracefully in the cellar.
