Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?

Family estate since 1850, Jacques Beaujeau is the fifth generation in the vineyards. His work is recognized within all styles of wines from dry to sweet white wines, from soft red wines aged in vats to oak-aged “cuvées” with more structure.

What sort of wines are you producing ?

We produce more than 10 different « appellations » wines at CHATEAU LA VARIERE in the Anjou region and DOMAINE DE LA PERRUCHE in the Saumur Champigny area, both in the magnificent Loire Valley region.

How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?

Our export distribution represent 20% of our turnover.

What sort of distributors are your customers ?

Our customers are importers which are renowned for their selection of best winemakers in French wine region.

Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?

We attach importance at the Terroir. The vineyard in planted in the best terroirs of the appellations we produce:

  • “Les Melleresses” is a renowned south facing slopes.

–          “Les Guerches”: Its recognition goes back to the middle Ages

  • “La Grande Chevalerie” is a terroir of gravels in Brissac which is exceptional in Loire Valley, well drained superb on gentle slope as in Medoc.
  • Our Coteaux de l’Aubance and Anjou blanc from the terroir “La Division” situates in the village of Vauchrétien are renowned.
  • “Clos de Chaumont” is a south facing slope which dominate the Loire river is composed of a bedrock chalk.
  • “Les Rôtissants” is a south facing slope renowned that produces Saumur blanc and dominate the Loire river.

Integrated control and controlled yields are the human factor that contribute to the renowned of the terroirs.

The Barrels

Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?

We are attentive to cultivation methods. The vineyard is entirely down to grass. The grass is mown regularly. When it breaks down, it provides the humus which the soil needs. Moreover, this encourages an increase of the number of earthworms which contribute to the ecological balance of the soil.

Use of treatments to contain disease is well-planned and reduced to a minimum with the only aim of preserving the quality of the grapes. The system has led to the reappearance of natural predators of acaroid and other enemies of the vins. The products, from the grape to the wine, are the result of a judicious balance between respect for nature and expert technique.

Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?

Yes, we are distributed is Dongguan, Shanghai and Hong-Kong.
