Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?
A bit of History
The name of Panigon appears for the first time in one of Rabelais novel (French writer from XVI century) Gargantua and Pantagruel.
Rabelais tells about Panurge and Pantagruel embarking on a sea voyage to visit the oracle od the Dive Bouteille(Holy Bottle) and meeting King Saint Panigon and his court on Chely Island. More earnestly, Château de Panigon’s oriugins may go back beyond the French Revolution. The first edition of Cocks Guide, Bordeaux and Its Wines (1850),makes already mention of Panigon, while the second edition, in 1868, refers to it as a CRU BOURGEOIS.
Still today , château de Panigon is entirely a family concern. Since 2006, the owners’ gaughter and son-in-law, Corinne and Georges Dadda, have been manging the estate and are xilling to aim excellence in respect for the finest Medoc tradition. The philosophy of production of the new managers, gathers together quality and modernity, in order to bring out the best in this exceptional terroir.
What sort of wines are you producing ?
The vineyard lies on gravel slopes worthy of the greatest terroirs of the Medoc area. It is composed of the three grapes varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, producing about 350.000 bottles, including 2 châteaux: Château de Panigon , the historical brand and recently Château Amour in 2012. Both wines are AOP Medoc crus bourgeois.
How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
70% of the production is exported: China, USA, Canada, Japan… 30% in Europe.
What sort of distributors are your customers ?
We distribute our wines through the Place of Bordeaux negociants, and sometimes directly through foreigners importers.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
The estate is located on the slopes of Civrac-en-Medoc, 65 kilometers North West of the Bordeaux city and benefits from the influence of both the Atlantic nearby and the Gironde river Estuary . They offer together favourable climate conditions that help the wines to ideally grow and the grapes to easily reach excellent maturation.
Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?
We do not produce organic wines, but we practice sustainable culture.
Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?
Our wines have been distributed in Asia since 2012 with success and we welcome new importers.
Is there anything who want to add about your wines, story or any news ?
Château de Panigon and Château Amour won many awards each year, such as: Bordeaux Competition, Decanter, Wine Enthusiast guide, Sakura Japan’s women award.
