Interview of Mr. Laurent Dubois , Owner -the nine generations – CHATEAU LES BERTRANDS for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive
Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?
Three generations ago during the Vauban period , our ancestor François Dubois , planted his first vines on the hiilsides in Reignac de Blaye . Nine generations later , we are still present , and very proud to continue this marvelous family history with the same enthusiasm and motivation which strongly links us to our land , vines and wine .
What sort of wines are you producing ?
We produce : White wines aged in tanks and or aged in barrels ( 17 % of my production ) We harvest by night Rosé wine : 5 % Red wines aged in tanks or aged in barrels ( 78 % ) We have a large game of red wines , entry , medium and high level quality
How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
We sell 40 % in France : directly customers , restaurants , wine cellars , supermarkets , and website We export 60 % in 17 countries .
What sort of distributors are your customers ?
In France we mentioned above and in others countries only importers.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
Our white wines are very specials : we harvest the night , the wines are very fresh , a lot of fruits ( grapefruits ) , very fruity. For the rosé , we propose 6 different labels in the same case ( 6 flat ) , it’s very elegant , the women like it !! For the red , we have a lot of choices , and we propose private label for each client, lot of choice labels , cases , capsules , bottles …
Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?
We don’t produce organic wines but we have been doing reasonable winegrowing since 1996 . this is why we have installed a weather station on the vineyard , enabling us to monitor the weather conditions on a daily basis , avoid damage to the vines and reduce treatment to a minimum .
Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?
In Asia , we export in China , Hong Kong , Japan , Cambodgia , Singapore .
Is there anything who want to add about your wines, story or any news ?
My 2 children ( son and daughter ) are in Australia now , they learn another culture and wine technology, and they want to work with us in the near future ( the 10 generation) !!!
