Interview of Mr. Andrea Rossi – Winemaker and Administrator – Podere della Bruciata for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive
Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developed decades after decades ?
Podere della Bruciata was born 25 years ago but it’s on the international market of wine from 2010.
The winemaking area is practically born independently; before we knew it, the company was already there, beautiful and solid producing quality wines.
It ‘was a series of events that led the way to make the wine of Podere della Bruciata to establish itself.
We strongly believe that wine is made in the vineyard where we focus the most of our efforts, then let’s not spoil it by altering the product in the cellar too.
What sort of wines are you producing ?
We produce Chianti, Nobile di Montepulciano and IGT.
Beyond the denomination wines are essentially Sangiovese grape variety and some variety less well known.
Sometimes we love to reproduce some old local varietals to renew some flavors lost in time that at least once in life should be tasted in purity.
How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
We export around 90% of our production
What sort of distributors are your customers ?
They are niche Importers who prefer good products before even be organic or naturals. They are private or importers who can recognize a terroir into the wine and appreciate it for its characteristics.
We also have many private clients who order the wine directly.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
We must first say that the quality of the wines of Montepulciano is very high and that the historic designation is well known.
Montepulciano has an excellent terroir for red wines, like Montalcino and Chianti Classico.
Our winery is distinguished by the fact that we produce wines, pass me the term, old-fashioned, not altered with oenological practices, made by spontaneous fermentation, no filtration and extremely low use of sulfur. Our wines have very particular tastes and flavors with unmatched facilities. Very respectful of the vintage in which they were produced.
Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?
The farm is organic since 2001 but the wines are produced with a lot of attention in more that go beyond the specification BIO.
Keeping the company on a human level there is more contact between the vineyard and winemaker consequently arises a certain feeling between the parties that always results in the shortest possible intervention to not alter a system that took many years to stabilize .
Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?
We are looking for Asian importers with the exception of Japan.
Is there anything who want to add about your wines, story or any news ?
I like to define our wines as “old-style wines” made by men, specially from the vine grower from whom they take personality and character.
They are wines that from the first taste tell something more than flavour, structur and taste but it tells stories by people that put the soul to do it.
I can proudly say that my wines always make an excellent game on the dining table. Those always pass the test: the bottle suddenly get empty.
