Interview of Vincent Leclair, Viticulteur of DOMAINE DE LA ROCHETTE for AsiaImportNews – Exclusive
Could you please tell us the story of your winery, when it was created and how it developped decades after decades ?
The Domain de la Rochette is a family Domain. My grandfather owned vines but also fruit trees. My father concentrated on vines and wine. Forty years ago, he was one of the first to market his bottled wine. He expanded and equipped the Domain. My father is now retired and I have been at the head of the Domain for 3 years.
I’m developing trade with export. I modernize with new equipment and with wines always closer to the consumers of the world.
What sort of wines are you producing ?
I only produce wines of AOC :
AOC Touraine and AOC Touraine Chenonceaux
The quality of my wines is my priority.
I make white, rosé, red and sparkling wines.
These are pleasant wines and easy to drink, with lots of fruit and a very affordable price.
How important are your export distribution compared to national distribution ?
Now, we export 25% of our production. It represent 50 000 bottles.
What sort of distributors are your customers ?
My clients are regional or national distributors, depending on the country.
In France, I sell my wines to restaurants, cellars, supermarkets, wholesalers but also individuals who come to the Domain.
Why your wines are different from other wineries in your area ?
I can say that I have one of the best terroirs in the Cher Valley (Cher is the river that the castle of Chenonceau strides over). Most of my vineyard is on the 1st coasts, where wines express all their potential of fruit and power.
I also work with a passionate young team. Our wines feel all the good vibrations throughout the year, from the size of the vine to the harvesting of the grapes and then the winemaking
Do you produce grapes in a organic or environmental friendly method, or with general methods ?
I do not have a label (like organic wines or organic farming) and I do not want any.
I reason the treatment of my vines at the most just and by equipping me with efficient equipment to reduce the doses.
Now, I no longer use insecticides and my vines are grassed to promote biodiversity.
Are your wines already distributed in Asia, and if not what are the countries you are looking for new distributors ?
For now, I do not sell my wines in Asia, although we have already shipped some wine to China 3 years ago.
I am looking for opportunities for long-term collaboration on all Asia
Is there anything you want to add about your wines, story or any news ?
I am a young winegrower, with a lot of project and I want to make known my wines to Asians, and especially the new prestigious AOC Touraine Chenonceaux.
